Most bones are connected at joints.
A joint is the place where two or more bones meet.
Some of these joints allow our bones to move a lot.
These joints are called flexible joints.
Flexible joints allow a lot of movement.
Elbows, wrists, knees and ankles are flexible joints.
The shoulder is the most flexible joint in the body.
Some joints only let our bones move a little.
They are called semi-flexible joints.
Our spine has semi-flexible joints.
The vertebrae in our spine are joined by semi-flexible joints.
Semi-flexible joints allow some movement.
Some bones are connected at joints that can’t move.
Joints that can’t move are called fixed joints.
The joints in the skull are fixed joints.
The bones in the skull are joined by fixed joints.
Fixed joints in the skull don’t move.
